It’s not often you find a cafe that ticks boxes when you have children. I don’t have a huge amount of boxes to tick but basically good coffee and a safe place for children to roam around is at the top the list.
This little gem opened just before Christmas and it seems that people are enjoying the little bit of difference it brings to Napier.
The shipping container converted cafe is called Magnet is at the northern end of the parade, near the entrance to the port. It has a huge grass area (not that we have grass at the moment with the drought we have here in Hawkes Bay). You can lounge back in deck chairs or bean bags and there are table and chairs if you are wanting to sit and eat a muffin or savoury. The best part is that you have an unobstructed view of the bay and out towards Cape Kidnappers.
There is ample area for the kids to run around, a few games and toys such as puzzles, balls, trucks and front loaders which can be used on the beach pebbles which are only a few metres away.
There are large Norfolk pines behind the cafe that offer shade in the heat of the day.
Magnet serves L’affare coffee in takeaway cups, so if the kids get busy and you don’t get to finish your coffee you can take it away with you and it’s still hot!
So next time you are in town or want to take the out of town visitors somewhere different for a coffee this is a great place to chill out.
